Old Mill Iron LLC, formerly known as Custom Iron Works of Madison, started as a vision, which slowly became reality.
Old Mill Iron, LLC formed by putting together a team of creative minds, recognition of gifts and talents, an entrepreneurship outlook, and a lot hard work. The company, originally based in Madison, AL was then moved to Huntsville, AL.
Here the company put its roots down in the Old Lincoln Mill Village.
So why the Old Lincoln Mill?
It all started from a family outing…..
The owner was spending some time with her father, (both her parents lived in the Mill Village Area during its peak in the 1942-1954). The two were out taking photos and discussing the family history in the Huntsville area.
“Our family heritage is strong in the Huntsville area. My grandparents, aunts and uncles all worked in the Lincoln and Lowe Mills. My mother lived just across the street from the Lincoln Mill when she was a girl. (Where Mc Neese glass currently is now) I felt the need to record my family history, in order to pass on to my sons. In addition, it created a bond between my father and I as we began to research the area, documenting where my parents and grandparents grew up and worked.” said Glennis.
On one of those outings the two ran into the Real Estate Developer Wayne Sisco, President of EcoSpace, LLC. Wayne, formerly a native of Huntsville and graduate of Grissom High School, shared with the two of them the plans for the restoration of the Old Lincoln Mill. They became intrigued at the prospect of the revitalization and restoration of the area. For months they watched the progress of the mill and recorded it. Slowly the Mill began taking shape. There were not a lot of people who could see the vision that Wayne did, most people who passed by would see a torn down old building in a not so nice area of town. However, Glennis and her father saw the restoration of their family history. See www.lincoln-mills.com
Over the next few months the progress of the mill was watched and recorded. Then, the idea of moving the iron business into the mill seemed like it would be a symbiotic relationship. The business was a good fit for the area and the mixed use space was very flexible. Wayne and EcoSpace LLC had successfully applied this concept in other historic mill spaces in the Metro Atlanta area and wanted to instill this in his hometown of Huntsville. CIW was intrigued with the idea of moving their current shop to Downtown Huntsville.
Within the next couple of months, the vision and dream became a reality. Many had reminisced about getting the mill building up and running and functional, now it was becoming a reality. CIW was renamed Old Mill Iron LLC, and it became a part of not only the refurbishing of the Old Lincoln Mill, but a part of a new business created there.
